BCEHL WEEKEND UPDATE - JANUARY 15th-19th

Saanichton, B.C. - It's a busy week in the BCEHL as the sixth annual Winter Classic kicks off on Friday! Hitting the outdoor ice will be the Female U18 league's Northern Capitals and Fraser Valley Rush, along with the U18 league's Cariboo Cougars and Valley West Giants! Let's see what's in going on around the BCEHL!

 

Female U18 AAA

 

In Northern B.C., the second-place Northern Capitals (9-10-0-1) and fourth-place Fraser Valley Rush (7-9-1-2) square off at the Winter Classic. They'll play outdoors on Friday at the Nak’azdli Whut'en First Nation’s Ernie Sam Memorial Arena, and inside the Vanderhoof Arena on Saturday. The squads have met three times so far this season with the Rush claiming victories in two of the three games. The third-place Thompson-Okanagan Lakers (7-10-2-3) will face off against the fifth-place Vancouver Island Seals (5-12-0-2) in Vernon.

U18 AAA

 

The top two teams in the U18 league go head-to-head at the Winter Classic. The league-leading Cariboo Cougars (18-4-1-1) and the second-place Valley West Giants (17-7-0-1) take to the great outdoors at the Ernie Sam Memorial Arena on Saturday, and in Fort St. James at the Fort Forum Arena on Sunday. Meanwhile, the third-place Okanagan Rockets (15-9-1-1) will travel to North Vancouver to go up against the fifth-place Vancouver North West Hawks (10-9-2-2).

U17 AAA

 

This week, the U17 league sees eight teams in action beginning on Wednesday. The league-leading Okanagan Rockets (22-4-0-0) will have a home-and-home set with the sixth-place Thompson Blazers (10-17-1-0) split between Kamloops and Kelowna. With only one point separating them in the standings, the third-place Vancouver North West Hawks (16-8-1-0) will take on the fifth-place Valley West Giants (15-8-1-1). The Hawks' and Giants' have battled twice this season with each team claiming one win.

In the lone matchup in the U15 league this weekend, third-place Cariboo Cougars (11-7-1-1) host the seventh-place Vancouver North East Chiefs (6-10-1-1) in Prince George. The teams previously went toe-to-toe on September 21 with the Cougars picking up a 4-1 victory.
